Emergency Procedures

Information for Parents

In the event Eastview Middle School has a fire, a situation requiring an evacuation, an "Admistrative Lockdown" or an "Emergency Lockdown", there are procedures that must be followed as outlined by RDPSD policy and/or the RCMP.

FIRE and/or EVACUATE & EXTERNAL RELOCATE

  1. Upon hearing a Fire Alarm (for a fire or an evacuation), students will evacuate the building with their current class and move to the East boundary of the playground along 38A Avenue and reconvene in their homerooms with their homeroom teacher.
  2. If students and staff cannot immediately return to the building, in the event of inclement weather, students will be escorted to Kin City Arena's and await further instructions from the "Person in Charge".  (Alternate Location:  St. Thomas Aquinas School).
  3. For further information, parents are asked to stay tuned to local radio stations, Eastview's website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, Instagram posts and Remind messages (text messages sent to parent's cell phones- see below to add your cell phone to our Remind messages).
  4. PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL - IN THE EVENT OF AN EVACUATION, THERE WILL BE NO ONE THERE TO ANSWER THE PHONES, BUT FURTHER, WE NEED THE LINES CLEAR FOR EMERGENCY PERSONNEL.

EVACUATE & DISMISS

  1. Upon hearing a Fire Alarm, students will evacuate the building with their current class and move to the East boundary of the playground along 38A Avenue and reconvene in their homerooms with their homeroom teacher.
  2. If students and staff cannot return to the building,  the "Person in Charge", in consultation with the appropriate authorities, may deem it is in their best interest to dismiss students.  Students will be instructed to go:  directly home, to their parent's workplace, or to a parent approved supervisor.  Students & staff are to stay out of the building.
  3. For further information, parents are asked to stay tuned to local radio stations, Eastview's website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, Instagram posts and Remind messages (text messages sent to parent's cell phones- see below to add your cell phone to our Remind messages).

ADMINISTRATIVE LOCKDOWN

  1. This occurs when students need to stay within their classrooms and the hallways need to remain clear of staff and students for various situations.  Normal classroom instruction and routines can occur, but no students leave the classroom.
  2. The Administrative Lockdown is lifted when the situation clears and students/staff return to normal schedules and routines.

EMERGENCY LOCKDOWN

  1. This occurs when students need to remain quietly within their classrooms and the hallways need to remain clear of staff and students for an emergency situation - normally instructed by the authorities due to a situation in the surrounding area/community.
  2. As instructed by the authorities, the school doors would be locked to the public for the student's safety.  The door(s) of the school will not be opened or answered to anyone except the proper authorities in an Emergency Lockdown.
  3. For further information, parents are asked to stay tuned to local radio stations, Eastview's website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, Instagram posts and Remind messages (text messages sent to parent's cell phones- see below to add your cell phone to our Remind messages).

SIGN UP FOR REMIND MESSAGES (text messages sent directly to your cell phone):

You may already be signed up for Remind messages through one or more of your child's teacher(s).  This Remind message system described on this webpage is DIFFERENT from those messages - this Remind messaging will be used when we need to contact parents directly - usually only in EMERGENCY situations.  DO NOT ASSUME YOU ARE SIGNED UP FOR THIS TEXT MESSAGE BECAUSE YOU HAVE SIGNED UP WITH YOUR CHILD'S CORE TEACHER!!!  If you want to receive texts when EVMS has an emergency where we need to contact parents, you would sign up for this Remind Messaging.  Follow these steps:

  1. On your cell phone, make a new TEXT MESSAGE
  2. Type in the EVMS Admin Remind number:  613-900-0158
  3. In the subject line or body of the text message type the following (depends on what grade your child is in):
    • If you have a child in Grade 8 in 2016/2017, type in the following:  @evgrad2017
    • If you have a child in Grade 7 in 2016/2017, type in the following:  @evgrad2018
